Truro Remembrance 2025

Truro City Council, in partnership with the Truro Branch of the Royal British Legion and Truro Cathedral, organised and supported this year’s Remembrance events that took place in Truro throughout November.

Following the launch of the Poppy Appeal on Saturday 25th October, the Blessing of the Garden of Remembranceceremony was held on the lawn area at the east end of the Cathedral at 11:45am on Sunday 2nd November.

On Remembrance Sunday, 9th November, the Act of Remembrance will take place at 11am at the Truro War Memorial in Boscawen Street.

A wreath-laying ceremony will follow at 2:30pm at the Truro War Memorial, accompanied by a military parade. The parade paused on Boscawen Street for a salute with His Majesty the King’s Lord-Lieutenant for Cornwall, Colonel Sir Edward Bolitho KCVO OBE.

The procession then continued to High Cross, where the Guard of Honour formed before being joined by the Civic Procession. The day’s commemorations will conclude  with a Service of Remembrance at Truro Cathedral, beginning at 3:15pm.

On Armistice Day, Tuesday 11th November, a two-minute silence was observed at 11am at the War Memorial in Boscawen Street, led by the Truro Branch of the Royal British Legion, marking the end of the First World War in 1918.

The Mayor of Truro, Cllr Chris Wells, participated in all events and welcomed dignitaries and military personnel to Truro ahead of the commemorations.

The Mayor of Truro, Cllr Chris Wells, said: “The November Remembrance events are an opportunity for us all to remember the many people who have given their lives in the service of our country, and to honour their bravery and sacrifice.

I feel very privileged to be able to represent the people of Truro and the City’s Councillors and staff on these important occasions, and in this year when we have marked the 80th anniversaries of VE and VJ Days, I hope that as many people as possible will make a special effort to attend.”
