The event took place at the Royal Cornwall Showground on Saturday 19th September with nearly 2,500 people taking part. The record attempt was declared a success by the Guinness World Record adjudicators, who confirmed the participants were now the new record holders. The event also marked Cornwall Hospice’s 45th year of providing specialist palliative care and support to people across the area.
Fundraising and raising awareness for charity is a huge part of the culture, ethos and values of Rock Choir. Rockies have raised over £10,000 for local Cornish charities over the past four years. Rock Choir Leader Marcus Alleyne led the choir for the event, with the Cornish contingent of Rockies providing the entertainment throughout the afternoon as well as eating copious amounts of delicious scones!

Rock Choir Leader Marcus Alleyne commented: “It was one of those wonderfully Cornish occasions. Lots of people, plenty
of laughter, a sea of cream teas and, of course, some Rock Choir singing thrown into the mix.
2,483 people came together, beating the previous record of 1,088 set in Beijing, China. So somewhere amongst all those scones, cups of tea and singing, we became part of a little bit of Cornish history.
Years from now, someone will mention the day Cornwall broke the world record for the biggest cream tea and a group of us will be able to say, ‘We were there’.
What a lovely memory to share, and what a privilege to have been a small part of such a special day for Cornwall Hospice.”
