Truro wins Gold at South West in Bloom 2025

Truro is celebrating a remarkable achievement following the South West in Bloom 2025 awards presentation, held on Wednesday 8th October 2025, at the Riviera Centre, Torquay. The city scooped up multiple awards, including the Gold Award, Sargent Trophy, and overall title of Champion of Champions – recognising Truro as one of the finest floral and environmentally conscious communities in the region.
Among the notable awards collected were:
  • Lifetime Achievement Award for Godfrey Mortimer (Chairman of Truro in Bloom) and his wife Peggy for their tireless work with the Truro in Bloom group and their longstanding commitment to the city.
  • RHS National Award for Wildlife Management – awarded to Daubuz Moor for its exceptional biodiversity and environmental management.
  • Tregolls Manor received Gold in the Business, Tourism and Leisure Awards and the Amberol Trophy for the Best Business Display in the South West.
  • The Sargent Trophy, recognising Truro’s outstanding effort and dedication in the main competition category.
  • Overall Champion of Champions winner.
These achievements reflect the collective efforts of Truro in Bloom, Truro City Council’s Parks and Gardens department, Biffa, Truro BID, Friends of Daubuz Moor, and the many local community groups and volunteers who work year-round to make Truro a vibrant, green, and welcoming city for all.
Richard Budge, Truro City Council’s Parks and Amenities Officer, said: “I am overwhelmingly proud of the team from our Parks Department, Truro in Bloom committee, Truro BID, Biffa Street team, It’s Your Neighbourhood groups, and the community of Truro for all their efforts in making Truro such a wonderful place to live, work, and visit.
I am very proud of all involved and wish to give everyone a huge thanks for everything they do. Everyone’s hard work has paid off, and though it’s nice to win accolades, this effort is put in for the people who live and work in Truro, along with the visitors.”
The Mayor of Truro, Cllr Chris Wells, attended the awards presentation, along with staff from Truro City Council’s Parks Department and Truro in Bloom Committee members.
The South West in Bloom judging panel praised Truro’s “sheer impact” of horticultural features, its “superb community involvement”, and “excellence in promoting environmental awareness.”
Highlights of the judges’ comments included:
  • Section A – Horticulture: From the immaculate planting at Boscawen Park to the outstanding floral displays at Tregolls Manor, Truro’s horticultural quality was described as being of “the highest standard”.
  • Section B – Environment: Judges were impressed by the city’s dedication to environmental awareness, heritage, and biodiversity – especially the work at Daubuz Moor, Truro Community Library, and the Cornwall Museum & Art Gallery.
  • Section C – Community: The transformation of sites like Sunny Corner through the RHS “It’s Your Neighbourhood” initiative showcased community passion, restoration skills, and a sense of strong civic pride.

Alun Jones, Truro BID Manager, said: “Truro BID, on behalf of the resident Truro businesses, is delighted to see that Truro has won several category titles at the regional South West in Bloom competition. This is a very positive statement for the city of Truro and a recognition of all the hard work and funding that is invested into the city-wide floral displays. This positive achievement will definitely support our visitor appeal.
Well done and congratulations for all involved, including the various teams that work tirelessly in keeping the city centre looking clean, tidy, attractive, and safe, along with funding support from the Truro businesses.”
Truro City Council would like to extend its congratulations to everyone from the South West who took part in this year’s South West in Bloom competition, and looks forward to future successes for both Our Great Little City and across the region.
