Truro’s exciting plans to provide new and improved indoor and outdoor sports and leisure facilities at Boscawen Park will reach a key milestone next month when work officially begins on constructing the new Sports Hub building and improving the sports pitches.
Led by the City Council and funded by Truro Town Deal, the £5.2 million Sports Hub project will see a new multi-use building constructed in Boscawen Park, incorporating new changing facilities, as well as flexible indoor spaces suitable for both indoor sports use and other activities such as conferences, community and family events, workshops and training or arts and crafts groups.
The outdoor space will include an extended and improved pétanque pitch and resurfacing of the riverside walk.
Improvements will also be made to the existing grass playing surfaces that will enable all the pitches to be used for longer periods of the year.

Plans are also being developed to dredge the duck pond at Malpas, with work due to begin as soon as possible.

“This is a major step forward for our Sports Hubproject which will produce positive benefits for the city, our residents and businesses, and for visitors” said Truro Mayor Chris Wells.
“We recognise that there will inevitably be some disruption during the works and apologise for any inconvenience to users of the park, visitors and the wider local community. During the past few months we have worked with users to help them find alternative sites while the pitches are being improved and will continue to work closely with the contractor and our partners, including Truro Town Deal Board and Cornwall Council, to keep disruption to a minimum.
“Once completed the sports hub and improved pitches will be important community assets and I am looking forward to seeing them in use next Spring.”.
Alan Stanhope, Chair of Truro Town Deal, said: “It’s great to see work getting underway and the Town Deal programme building momentum. Boscawen Sports Hub is a key part of our wider ambition to create a healthier, more connected, and more vibrant place to live. We know how much this new facility will mean to local clubs, families, and community groups, and we’re proud to be helping to make it happen.”
The works, which are being carried out by Inscapes and Fox Construction, are currently due to start during the week beginning 4 August. During the works, fencing will be erected around the site of the new building and the sports pitches.
The pitches will be closed to all users while the pitch improvement works are carried out. Following the completion of the drainage works at the end of September, the area will remain closed to the public to enable the new grass surface to be established. Competitive sports are expected to resume on the playing surfaces in April 2026.
The children’s play area, formal gardens, tennis courts, and café will remain open to the public throughout the construction period. The existing boules / pétanque pitch will also remain open for the majority of the building work.
An Information Day is being held at the Truro Loops Room in the Tennis Pavilion on Wednesday, 30 July to enable the local community to find out more about the project and talk to members of the project team.
The drop in event will take place between 13.00 to 18.00, and all are welcome to attend.
Truro Town Deal Board, in partnership with Cornwall Council, successfully bid for a Town Deal worth £23.6 million to support a range of projects that will contribute to the city’s regeneration and boost the local economy.
