Truro City Council Press Release
Thursday 7th July
Statement: Royal Cornwall Museum
In our role as visitor information and destination marketing, we are deeply saddened to hear the news about the potential closure of the Royal Cornwall Museum.
Over the years, we have worked with the museum to promote their activities and exhibitions.
The team in our visitor information shop regularly highlight the museum as a place to go when in Truro and we have always received such positive feedback from those who have visited.
Working with Visit Cornwall, we have often hosted press and familiarisation trips, which very often involve visits to the museum. On one particular trip, we hosted a New York influencer, who was fascinated by the mineral collection, which is one of the top mineral collections in the world. He was very interested in the stories relating to the collection and how it came to be in the care of the museum.
More recently, we have been working with the museum to promote their summer activities, which consist of free and low-cost events. We have also planned for the museum to run activities as part of Truro City Council’s ‘Our Great Little Kid’s Club’, which consists of a free summer event programme. These free and low cost events ensure that the museum is an accessible attraction for all, making it a very valuable asset to those not only in Truro, but throughout Cornwall.
As is hinted in the name, the museum is Cornwall’s county museum and is vital to our
heritage and history. It is also a significant asset for out of season tourism, when the sun isn’t shining and visitors aren’t at the beach.
We will continue to support the museum and hope that a solution is found so that this key service can remain open for all to enjoy.
