Celebrating local success

Truro's Enigma Escape Cornwall wins prestigious award

A small independent Truro business is making a big impression nationally, with its Fear of the Unknown experience now recognised as one of the UK's leading escape rooms.

Huge congratulations to husband-and-wife team Oli and Megan at Enigma Escape Cornwall, whose flagship experience Fear of the Unknown has won a prestigious 2026 Golden Lock Award.

Created beneath the streets of Truro in Enigma's atmospheric Lemon Street basement, the immersive 90-minute experience took an extraordinary 13 months to build before opening in May 2025.

It has since attracted attention far beyond Cornwall. Alongside its Golden Lock Award, Fear of the Unknown became a finalist in the 2026 UK Escape Room Awards and is currently ranked No. 2 among more than 2,000 escape rooms across the UK on escape-room discovery site WhereToEscape.

It's fantastic to see an independent Truro business creating something that is being recognised nationally. This is exactly the kind of local success story Community Together loves to celebrate.

Oli and Megan took over the Truro escape-room business in September 2023. Their focus has been on creating highly immersive, hand-built experiences with original puzzles, storytelling and authentic surroundings.

Fear of the Unknown takes players into a Lovecraft-inspired mystery, combining puzzles, atmosphere and storytelling across a 90-minute adventure.

For Truro, it is another reminder of the extraordinary independent businesses operating right on our doorstep - and another reason for people to come into the city and discover something different.
